Behind the Times

Well, I have digital voicemail and HDTV, a flatiron, enjoyed OnStar and even have an iPhone with Shazam, Vicinity, Stanza, Facebook, etc on it too, but I have been told a few too many times in the last week that I was 'behind the times' because I not only didn't have a blog, but didn't visit many or often enough, to boot. Behind the times? I think not, but maybe I am so much that I can't even conceive that I am. And so, with my recent flood of musings, I am now here to share. So don't have a cow about it anymore, okay? I have changed before. One of the first 'image' points I learned via Mary Kay training about 15 years ago, was how important it was to keep up with change. (Which brings Physics lessons from Dad at my childhood dinner table to mind....the lesson I heard the most and remember the best was "the only constant in the Universe is CHANGE".) So hearing that in an MK training wasn't foreign information. And the awesome MK Directors teaching me weren't suggesting blending in with the high school crowd, but that staying up with mainstream fashion, technology, and especially hairstyle is pretty darn crucial if your business is marketing image! MK NSD Gloria Mayfield-Banks is famous for many reasons :) but in my book, she is famous for teaching that "You gotta have slammin' hair, and if you haven't gotten a compliment on your hair in the last week, it's time to change that hair!" (and the same of course stands true, for your makeup/skincare and wardrobe if no one has commented in the last week that you look great!) So against my decade of short-hair-with-heighth-on-the -crown comfort zone, I am taking my stylist's advice and wearing it all straight, which means flat--maybe three. I discovered I enjoyed bicycling --at a leisurely pace, mind you--a few years back, but even in my sunny state the outdoor temperature is not enjoyable to bike in year-round....so yoga and pilates classes are still winning the fav vote :). Even against my tendency to hold on --tight!--to things I've become comfortable with.....here I sit with flat slammin' hair, in my yoga pants, writing a BLOG, for crying out loud. Are ya happy?
